Now that you’ve decided you want that simple lifestyle, where do you start?
Just looking at everything you’ve collected over your lifetime gives you anxiety.
Let’s look at The KonMari Method to a clutter free home. It’s quite simple. Marie suggest tidying up (discarding) by category, rather than by room.
The KonMarie tidying (discarding) method is done in this specific order:
CATEGORY
- Clothes
- books
- papers
- miscellaneous items
- finally, sentimental items
She give’s 6 basic rules of tidying (discarding).
- Commit yourself to tidying up.
- Imagine your ideal lifestyle.
- Finish discarding first.
- Tidying by category, not by location.
- Follow the right order.
- Ask yourself if it sparks joy.
Start with category 1. clothes, remove all your clothes out of your closet and drawers. Pile them up and go through them one by one and see if it “sparks joy”.
Once you’ve gone through that category hit the next category 2. books. Gather all your books put them in a pile, go through them 1 at a time. Ask yourself do they bring joy in your life? If the answer is no, put them in a discard pile.
Once you’ve gone through all the categories, things that bring spark and joy should be significantly less.
Put everything in its place.
Do this with all the categories mentioned above.
When you’re done all categories, you should have a clutter free home that brings you joy and prosperity.
Don’t forget, you must finish all your pile in that particular category, before tackling the next category.
I recently did this and got rid of 9 trash bags of clothes and miscellaneous items.
These items really meant nothing to me, sometimes you don’t even realize you have so much junk tucked away. Out of sight out of mind.
So, honestly it good to go through your home once maybe twice a year just keep things clean and fresh.
I know you can do it too.

I never heard of the KonMarie Method before. Its sounds interesting. The new year is coming and I really want to start off on the foot. Sounds easy enough to clean by category rather than room.
