Keeping your home tidy may seem like an impossible task, especially when you have little ones, work, go to school or all the above. But with a few simple strategies, you can tackle your to-do list and have that clean house you always dream of. I’ve put together a “best tips for keeping a tidy home“, for you and your family.
Clean as you go
Rather, then wait till the house is a total mess, clean a little everyday, as you go through each room. If you do a little everyday, you don’t have to spend too much time on your day-off cleaning. Most of us, don’t want to spend our precious time tiding up when we can do something else more fun.
Make your bed
Every morning when you wake up, make your bed. It seems so tedious, but it’s a great way to start your day being productive. And what a difference in how your room looks with the bed made.
If you’re a minimalist, then maybe you can do without the top sheet. I prefer just my white, puffy, goose down comforter only, My husbands on the other hand, prefers just the top sheet. If you can do without the sheet, then bed making will be quicker.
Daily Laundry
This can vary on how big your family is and many loads you do a week. For me and my family, I do a load a day. When I was working full time, as soon as I got home from work I did a load. Now, I do a load in the morning. When the laundry is done, immediately fold and put them away. It’s easy to just throw them on the side, and forget about them. So get in the good habit of doing laundry daily and immediately folding and putting them away.
Bathroom
After each shower, wipe down surfaces, and spray with cleaner (I prefer natural cleaners, like these), this helps keep mold at bay. Hang towels neatly on towel bars or hooks. This will help to air dry the towels so you can re-use it a few times before washing.
Kitchen
Don’t let dishes sit in the sink. Wash your dishes after every meal or load your dishwasher. Start your dishwasher after dinner and empty your dishwasher in the morning, while waiting for your brewing coffee. Don’t let dishes sit over night.Clean up counters and stovetop after every meal. Wipe done dinner table.
Daily Mail
Don’t let mail, papers or magazines stack up at the entryway. Toss flyers or unnecessary mail immediately, file any bills that need to be paid. Opt in for paperless billing, this helps to prevent identification theft. If you subscribe to magazines or newspapers, toss them in the recycling bin as soon as you’re done with them. Resist the urge to save old magazine issues, if there’s something of real interest, take a picture of it on your phone.
Get the family involved
Have the kids help out, teach them to put toys away, they can help take the trash out empty the dishwasher and even fold clothes. I realize that it may be easier to do it yourself. But by teaching your kids to do age appropriate task will help you and them in the long run.
Routine
Organization takes time, it won’t happen overnight. Keep consistent on doing small cleaning tasks daily. Set aside even just 15 minutes and don’t worry about getting instant results. Keeping a tidy home has its struggles. Don’t give up. Keep up the routine. Be consistent. Do it daily.
