Kitchens are undeniably the heart of today’s home. Understandable, you want your kitchen to look its best. But, one minute linoleum flooring and formica countertops are all the rage, and the next they’re incredibly dated. So, before you invest your hard earned dollars for a kitchen renovation, let’s see what’s trending for kitchen remodels right now.
Granite is out
It’s hard to believe, but the ever-popular granite is loosing its luster. While, in recent years quartz countertops has been on the uprise. Gaining popularity and according to Home Innovation Research Labs, quartz is here to stay.
Before starting on your kitchen remodel, you may want to consider using Quartz and here’s why:
- Quartz has the look of natural stone without the maintenance. Made from one of the hardest minerals on earth, quartz countertops is arguably the most durable option for kitchens
- Engineered in a factory. Made with quartz (about 94%), combined with polyester resin (for binding) and pigments
- Stain and scratch resistant. The resin makes them non-porous, making quartz very easy to upkeep
- Because they’re manufactured they come in variety of colors and style, including fire engine red and apple green.
- Different finishes offered, such as honed for a softer matte look of slate, concrete or limestone.
- Embossed finish gives that slightly leathered look with a soft textured feel.
- Sandblasted for a smooth abrasion that’s slightly scratched, but note that original tones and veins will be slightly dulled.
On the downside quartz can discolor when exposed to direct sunlight over time.
Dark Blue Cabinets
Pantone’s color of the year is PANTONE 19-4052 classic blue. Perhaps, this should come as no surprise as the classic blue represents calm, confidence, and connection as a decade ends and a new one begins.

This sink is not only large but deep allowing for easier cleaning while still maintaining a crisp look.

Hi Lorie! I also have stainless steel appliances, and living on an island without a/c the salt air makes them rust. My next appliance will NOT be stainless steel. Thanks for your comment.
