Cement are heat resistant, they can be used on hearths and outdoors. However, intense freeze-and-thaw cycles can eventually cause expansion and cracking, scaling, and crumbling of the concrete.
Stone tiles
There are several types to consider, including marble, limestone, quartz, granite, travertine, and slate. Some things to consider when deciding on natural stone tiles is that they require periodic maintenance to ensure they remain well protected and clean.
Surface textures and finishes vary depending on which type of stone you select. Keep in mind, polished finishes can be slippery when wet. A matte finish offers more traction. A tumbled finish offers an antique appearance that can help prevent slipping.
Glass tiles
Glass tiles are great for decorative and detailed surfaces, they often come in smaller sizes. They are stain resistant and easy to clean.
Things to keep in mind: glass tiles can break and chip easily, they are most often chosen for mosaics, shower walls and backsplashes. It is important to note that even though glass tiles are stain resistant, they are not hard water stain resistant. Keep that in mind if you have hard water in your home.
Last but not least to consider
The grout color will play a big role in the final look of your tile. Choosing a grout color that’s complementary, the grout blends in and lets the tile speak for itself, giving it a classic, traditional feel.
On the other hand, choosing a contrasting grout color ex: dark grout with light tile will emphasizes the lines, making it bolder, more modern, and graphic.
