The first thing a guest sees when they walk into your home is the entryway. It’s the place your guest will form their first impression on your home. You can create and design clever features to make the best first impression possible, while making your guests feel warm and welcomed.
Declutter
First and foremost is to declutter your entryway. Oftentimes, entryways serves as a catch-all place for keys, mail, magazines and for local people in Hawaii, shoes. As you can imagine, it can get pretty messy, quick. So, declutter and get organized. Use key racks for keys*, Storage bins or baskets and shoe racks. Keep this space light and airy yet functional. If possible use the outside space for a bench. A perfect place to put shoes on if your entryway is tiny.
- *Tip make sure keys are not seen from the outside, there has been many cases where homes had been broken in and keys were taken. Days later the burglars came back and steal the car.
Go big even in small spaces
Don’t think you need to put a small table in your small entryway. Instead, go big. Oversized mirror along a slim console table will brighten the area and give your entryway that larger illusion.
Mixing it up
Mix metal and wood to give that rustic look. Add some flair with some antiques, old books and live plants. Adding a nice soft light is also warm and welcoming.
Tell your story
If you live in the city, chances are your entryway will be tiny. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make a big statement. Add a colorful rug, an elegant tray, chic boxes, or a rustic basket. Make the most of the space and keep it from looking cluttered.
Keeping it simple
Overall, keeping your entryway simple and clutter-free, is always welcoming for your guests. Clean white walls gives a great neutral foundation, opening up any tiny space. Instead of painting your walls a dark color here, use colorful art work or accessories instead.
